A warning from the Food and Drug Administration about the possible side effects from the Moderna vaccine is raising some eyebrows.
FOX13 talked to local doctors in order to separate fact from fiction.
Purvisha Patel, Memphis dermatologist and doctor with Advanced Dermatology, spoke about the warning that came from the FDA after people with cosmetic fillers had side effects during the vaccine trials.
Two people who had cosmetic procedures experienced facial swelling after getting the Moderna vaccine.
The FDA reported another trial participant had a reaction in the dermal fillers around her lips.
Patel said the side effects are a small part of the vaccine study.
“I think it’s really important to let people know that everything is going to be okay,” Patel said.
Patel said this should not be a deterrent to getting the vaccine.
Doctors told FOX13 that all vaccines have some possible side effects, and these can be treated with antihistamines, steroids or antibiotics.
About 30,000 people participated in the Moderna vaccine trials.
The three that experienced swelling recently had lip fillers or cheek fillers.
Doctor Fahmi Farah said, “The allergic reaction we are seeing is controllable, it’s mild, and with a simple antihistamine and steroids it’s resolved.”
